HOME REPAIR SPECIALIST/INSPECTOR 

The Redevelopment Authority of the County of Washington is currently seeking to fill the position of Home Repair Specialist/Inspector (Home Rehabilitation Specialist) for affordable housing programs administered by the Home Improvement Department. This position involves field and office work in the evaluation of housing units to determine needed repairs or modifications and assist first-time homebuyers with the purchase of a house.

 

Primary Duties:

  • Assist applicants with securing program funds for home repairs and modifications

  • Responsible for compliance of regulations governing housing programs repairs, modifications, and expenditures

  • Determining eligibility of clients by verifying income and ownership

  • Determining housing repairs/modifications needed by performing an inspection and creating deficiency lists, work specifications, and cost estimates

  • Contribute to the health and safety of residents by coordinating with third party lead inspectors to effectively address environmental hazards

  • Contribute to an efficient bid process for program participants

  • Prepare contracts, reports, letters, and documents

  • Contribute to the successful purchase of a house by proactively coordinating with lenders and first-time home buyers

  • Monitor performance of contractors and ensure participants receive the contracted work according to specifications and regulations

Requirements

Necessary Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)

  • Residential construction knowledge is beneficial

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Attention to detail

  • Driver’s License is required, as travel throughout the county is frequent

  • Ability to work evenings or weekends to meet the needs of program participants
